Everglades

We went to the Everglades National Park in Florida with my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Ken. It was an alligator, melaleuca tree and bird invested swamp.

Alligators are weird creatures female alligators grow to be 8.2 ft, male alligators grow to be 12 ft. Alligators don’t know if something’s in their mouths until it touches them because they can’t see it because they can’t see through they’re skulls. Alligators have the smallest brains in comparison to their body size in the world.

Birds are great fishers.  Cormorants can swim at 1.72 meters per seccond. Ospreys drop fish that aren’t the right size. Unlike most other birds vultures only eat dead fish and animals.

Melaleuca trees are evil. They are invasive species.  Invasive species are plants or animals from other places that spreads a lot in another area. Melaleuca trees ruin the food chain by killing plants that other animals can’t live without. Also, they can’t be killed because they’re fire and cold resistant. To top it off they took over 438,000 acres of land in the Everglades.

Above all, I had a great time seeing the Everglades National Park. It was fun to see the alligators. It was fun to see the birds. Yes, it was even fun to learn about the evil trees.
