Topkapı Palace, Istanbul

On October 29, we went to a palace, the TopkapiPalace.  The palace had 4 courts.  The 1st court was a court that was opened to the public, so you wouldn’t find any royalty there.  The 2nd court was only for people on royal Business.  The 3rd court was for the royal family, VIPs’, and the royal staff.  The royal family lived in the 4th court.  You think the palace is huge??  Well you’re right!  But it’s not surprising because the Ottoman Empire was wealthy and they wanted to show it, and what’s a better way to show it than a huge palace.

There was alooooooooot of exhıbıts to see at the palace. You need a little bit more than a half a day to see all the exhıbıts.  We had to pick one exhıbıt to really focus on and write a paragraph about.  I decided to write about the emperors clothes.   I picked clothes because I love to design clothes and I wanted to see what they wore a long time ago, in Turkey.

To me the Sultans outfits looked funny.  They wore dresses instead of pants.  Most of the Sultans were big, they looked to be a XXXL . The Ottoman Empire had a mixed culture.  An example would be that the Sultans military uniform looked very Spanish.  As I have said before, the Ottoman Empire was very rich so the Sultans dresses were sewn with silver and gold.  I had a great time looking at the sultan’s clothes.

Did You Know???

A sultan could have 4 official wives and as many unofficial as they wanted.  One sultan had 300 wives!!!!!
