Question/Answer

Turkish vs. American Schools

We visited two Turkish schools to compare them with American schools.  We had a great time at the schools!  To get all of our information we talked to some high school girls.  The girls spoke very, very little English so we had the English teacher translate.  Check out these VIQs (Very Important Questions) and extra information from our visits.

Translated by English teacher.

We learned a lot from the English teacher and the girls but we also saw some cool stuff at the schools.

The little kids’ uniforms were all blue.  The girls wore dresses with lace lapels.  The girls’ lapels had flowers, butterflies and other “girly” stuff.  The boys had blue shirts and blue pants.  The boys wore lapels which had trucks embroidered on them.

The high school kids had a gray uniform with blue.  The girls had gray bottoms and either blue or white tops.  I guess they got to chose.  The high school boys had blue jackets, white shirts and gray pants.

The school bells were very nice.  Instead of going “dddiiiiiiiiiiing”, it was a nice gentle piano with other soft instruments.

We had a great time learning about Turkish schools.  We really enjoyed talking to the Turkish high school kids.  The English teacher, Serdar invited us to have dinner at his house.  We got to meet his 2 year old daughter and his wife.  Serdar’s daughter called Abby and me “Aba”, which mean older sister.  The meal that the wife cooked was great.  We ate in the traditional Turkish way which is to put down a table cloth on the floor then you put a large platter on the floor (you use the table cloth as a napkin).
